A wonderful antique opal brooch from the Victorian era, circa 1900! Made of 15ct yellow gold, this beautiful brooch showcases one Australian solid crystal opal gemstone! The mesmerizing opal is fashioned in a lovely cabochon crescent shape and displays subtle flashes of green, violet and red. Estimated weight of the opal is 5.00 carats. The opal is set into a regal claw gallery setting which has been custom made for the unique shape. The opal rests diagonally atop a double bar design decorated with a fancy gallery rail across each end, and granule finals. The timeless style reminiscent of early Australian origin. Stamped "15CT" denoting 15ct gold, the brooch is beautifully preserved with the bloomed 'matte' surface finish, characteristic of the era. A c-connection and metal pin attaches to the back.
The brooch measures 5.30cm total length.
