A beautiful carved shell cameo brooch from the mid century, c1956! Made of 14ct rosy yellow gold, this delightful cameo depicts a 19th century woman's head and shoulders resting in a double bezel frame with gold rope trim. The shell carving is nicely detailed with a tendril upswept Victorian-esque hairstyle, and the fair lady is adorned with drop earrings, pearl necklace and has a drape flowing over the shoulders and lower neckline. The cameo is secured in a bezel collet with a pin and tube catch to the back, a safety chain/pin is also connected for extra security.
A full set of crisp finnish hallmarks can be seen to the back, dating the piece to year 1956 (C7), and giving provenance to the piece for Finland, Turku.
The brooch measures 4.80cm x 3.80cm.
