A charming antique shell cameo brooch from the Victorian era, c1860! Made of rolled gold, this sensational large cameo depicts an intricately hand carved three-dimensional village scene. The sensational hand carved cameo is exquisitely detailed in every sense. The picturesque bustling village scene in relief includes chattering folk at a table with a dog to the side, cottages, large trees in the background, plus many other fine details and scope for the eye to roam.
The cameo rests in a bezel collet which swivels. A frame insert and photo, which may have adorned the back of the piece originally, is no longer present. A twisted frame makes up the rest of the brooch and a pin and C loop attaches at the back, additionally there is a safety chain attached to the top.
The brooch measures 7.00cm height x 5.80cm width, and cameo measures 4.80mm height x 4.00mm width (est).
