An ornately designed antique brooch from the Victorian era, c1894! Made in sterling silver, this circular 'rosebud' brooch is finely detailed with appliques to the centre dome and decorative repoussé work including Fleur de Lis motifs and granulation work... the style reminiscent of the wonderful Etruscan revival period.
To the reverse of the brooch bears a crisp set of English hallmarks denoting Birmingham origin and year 1884 manufacture. Makers marks look to be 'J & Co' indicating Joseph Jennins & Co silversmith's - well known in the 19th century as a button & military ornament maker. A pin and c-clasp fasten the brooch, there is also a safety chain/pin connected for extra security.
The size of the brooch measures 3.80cm (1 & ½") across.

The condition of the antique brooch is excellent. Besides normal surface wear and a darkened patina, the brooch bears no damage or dents to the design. Clasp works well. A wonderful antique piece! |
