A wonderful vintage Lega marcasite necklace from the mid 20th century, c1950! Made of sterling silver, this artful marcasite piece has design influences of Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Retro era wrapped into one. The necklace consists of five fanciful front links with the main larger design featuring scrolls and sinuous lines surrounding spokes radiating from a marcasite encrusted circle. Side links form into slender organic designs, and all are accented with dazzling marcasite stones. Attached to an original curb chain, the longer than usual length measures 52cm (20 & 1/2" inches), the necklace can be shortened if you desire. A bolt ring clasp, stamped STERLING, securely fastens the necklace. The piece tests sterling silver.
The back of the front piece is signed "Lega" and another stamp which appears to be the design number though is age-worn to accurately decipher. Lega was an Australian, Melbourne based company which produced some of the nicest quality marcasite jewellery from around 1948 and into the 1950's. Lega was one of few firms producing marcasite sterling silver jewellery here in Australia.

The overall condition of the necklace is very good. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent stones missing or damage to the stones. All links appear securely attached with no link wear/thinning evident. A darkened patina remains to the silver surface, adding a nice contrast (this can be polished out if desired).
