A wonderful antique book chain from the Victorian era, c1880! Made of sterling silver this distinct antique chain features textured and applique decorated rectangle shaped links alternating with hollow loops. Up close the unique design has a 'honeycomb chain' alike applique running along each side (back and front) to the rectangle links. There is also an all over textured surface, adding further Victorian flair! The fancy links are connected with polished 8.50mm hollow rings in-between, and a spring O ring blends into the design nicely whilst functioning as the clasp for the necklace. A couple of the rings have endured slight dings over the years due to the hollow construction, albeit they are not terribly noticeable on the neckline, and do not impede with the sturdiness of the chain. Priced accordingly. Stamped 'STERLING' to the clasp, chain tests sterling silver.
Measuring 42cm or just under 17" inches, the necklace sits beautifully around the collar bone. It can be worn by it self with the clasp at the back neck, or coupled with your favourite antique pendant attached to the bolt ring at the front.

The antique necklace presents in good condition. Besides normal surface wear, and slight dings in some of the hollow rings, the necklace presents well to the naked eye. The clasp works well retaining good spring tension, and the small flaws do not detract from the overall aesthetics of the piece. A wonderful Victorian piece! |
