A wonderfully rare mourning heart ring from the early Victorian era, c1845! Made of 18ct yellow gold with black enamel surround, this charming mid 19th century ring is accented with eight natural seed pearls - a cluster of six accent the central secion of the dome heart and one is placed at each shoulder. In typical Georgian- Victorian genre, to the outside of the band reads "IN MEMORY OF" in gold sections, surrounded by black enamel and flanked by decorative split leaf alike pearl-dotted shoulders.
Inside the shank, the ring bears a set of English hallmarks for London, year 1845, and there is also an endearing inscription which appears to read "F Dart Obt 22 Dec 1845.".
Finger size of the ring measures 7 1/2 (USA) or O (Aus/UK).

The antique ring presents in good condition. There does appear to be some enamel loss where the decorative heart etching is, albeit difficult to detect. The back of the heart may have had a compartment for hair, which is now absent. Pearls appear all original to the ring, and are securely set. And besides general surface wear, the ring presents in very good order for its 179-year age. A charming antique ring |
