Here is a wonderful antique carnelian Scarab ring from the Victorian era, dating back to the late 19th century. This exquisite ring boasts a natural carnelian stone carved into the shape of a Scarab, a symbol of protection and transformation, while the underside is adorned with hieroglyphs of two winged horses, or Pegasus, adding a layer of mythical symbolism.
Crafted from a harmonious blend of 18ct gold for the top and 15ct gold for the shank, the ring features elegant Etruscan revival details, including a decorative rope edging and granulation accents. There is further rope detailing to the underside and a grooved tab/claw at each end securing a rod that appears to connect the top to the bottom. A unique design, with the shank perhaps being a later addition to the ring.
No stamps are evident to the ring, albeit there is an inscription inside the shank which reads "8818 and "B / Ι / -". An XRF test distinguishes the mount as being made of solid 18ct gold top, and solid 15ct gold shank.
