A rare ROLEX OYSTER watch from the Art Deco era! Made of 18ct yellow gold and hallmarked for year 1926, this very rare model is from the first Oyster collection and has recently undergone a full professional service. It comes on a new black leather Hirch strap.
Influenced with Art Deco elegance, the Rolex watch features a wonderful polished octagonal case which has a screwed down bezel and back. There are black Deco numerals, an original sunburst engine-turned dial, minute markers, a subsidiary second's dial at 6 o'clock and blued steel 'spade' hands. The dial colour is silver warmed to a lovely subtle sepia, signed ROLEX OYSTER and SWISS MADE.
The Rolex watch is powered by the original high grade mechanical 15-jewel Rolex lever movement - signed 'ROLEX' 'EXTRA PRIMA' to the rachet wheel, along with '15 JEWELS', 'SWISS MADE' 'TIMED 6 POSITIONS' and 'FOR ALL CLIMATES'. There is also the original Rolex screw-down Oyster Patent crown. Inside the case-back reveals numerous stamps (typical of varied vintage Rolex watches), stamps include 'R.W.C. LTD' (Rolex Watch Company), 'ROLEX' '7 WORLD'S RECORDS' GOLD MEDAL GENEVA-SUISSE, 'PATENT APPLIED FOR' and patent/serial numbers '114948' '34306'. Additionally, there is a UK gold guarantee hallmark '18 .75', a Glasgow opposed "F's mark (where the case was assayed and hallmarked), and a date letter mark 'd' which denotes year 1926. Various hand-engraved watchmakers marks can also be seen, indicating servicing history.
Case size measures approx 4cm lug tip to tip x 3.20cm wide (excluding crown).

The vintage Rolex watch presents in very good condition. The case has some light rippling to the back, minute ding to one side and normal surface wear consistent with the near 100-year age. Dial is in excellent condition with just some expected age-related surface patina, adding further character and contrast |
