Interesting Fact:

Garnet

The most widely known colour of garnet gemstones is dark red, however garnets can come in many different colours and varieties. Almandine and Pyrope varieties are the most common garnet gemstones, not far behind is the garnet known as Rhodalite which is a pretty rose-purple-red variety. Other varieties and colours include Spessatite which is a orange to orange-red. The Tsavorite and Demantoid variety come in stunning green hue's and make an excellent substitute for Emerald (garnet being more durable and harder). Yellow Topazolite and black Melanite are just a few other types of varieties in the extensive Garnet gemstone variety. The garnet gemstone has excellent wearing properties, it is relativity insensitive and uncomplicated to work with. As to the look, garnets have a high refractive index, meaning they have a bright vitreous lustre.

Garnet is the birthstone for January.
