A magnificent garnet and chrysoberyl brooch from the Victorian era, c1860! The two-section brooch/pendant is made of 18ct gold and has an exceptional three-dimensional lovers knot design. The entire front surface features intricate Etruscan revival flourishes along with textured gold to the leaf profiles and stems. The acorns are budding with glistening garnets and chrysoberyls - each resting in closed foil-back settings giving the stones a delightful scintillation at every turn. The lower pendant dangles freely from a long looped hook which attaches to the larger brooch. On the reverse of the larger brooch there is a small compartment which contains woven hair. Also, a pin and 'C' clasp is attached to the back. The piece rests and molds nicely into the original red case which has rich green velvet and silk lining.
An enchanting Victorian beauty which would make a one of a kind addition for the discerning lady!

The overall condition of the Victorian piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold, settings or gemstones. There is a little bit of wear to the facet edges of the chrysoberyl stones, otherwise the gemstones are in superb condition with no nicks or cracks. A wonderful antique piece! |
