Antique Victorian Scottish Sterling Silver Malachite 'Regard' Brooch

A fabulous antique Victorian 'REGARD' malachite brooch, hailing from Scotland from the late 19th century, c1880! Also known as Scottish pebble jewelry, the good-sized circular brooch is crafted in sterling silver with stunning malachite sections inlaid into the design. The malachite pieces are a vibrant green hue and display varied striking banded patterns. The malachite was likely sourced abroad in Russia which was the main source of malachite in the 19th century. The malachite is meticulously cut and inlaid, each piece resting in between fine etched silver letters which spell the word 'REGARD' along the top half. The lower section of the brooch features a silver foliage engraved section, four smaller diamond-shaped malachite inlays are centrally placed in the design  - exhibiting a 'crown' like appearance. A bevel-edge finishes the piece which is adorned with a criss-cross engraved pattern. The  smoothly polished back has a pin and c-loop connection, as well as a small ring where a safety chain may have attached to.

A superb piece of Scottish history which would add an impressive accessory to the scarf, lapel or wherever you desire to show it off. Charming!
