This antique insect brooch dates back to late Victorian, early Edwardian era-  circa 1900, the exquisite little insect depicts a bee. The bee features a blue sapphire-like doublet body and reddish-pink garnet topped doublet head  - doublets or composite gems were popular in antique jewellery and often used before quality synthetic gems were available. The bee is detailed with patterned wings, antennae, and legs. One of the back legs is missing, however does not affect the overall charm of this brooch. Bee is set upon a squared 3mm wide bar which is enhanced with an engraved dome and half granule each each. Pin and 'C' shaped loop on the reverse.

Brooch is crafted in 9ct gold and features a yellow gold wash. The yellow gold wash has softened over the years leaving a lovely subtle rose hue.  Stamped "9c" on the reverse along with, what appears to be, a "crown' (perhaps the makers mark!). This eye catching insect brooch measures 48.3mm or 1 90" inches in total length. Bee measures 16.30mm in total length.

This antique brooch has been priced accordingly due to one leg missing.
