This beautiful decorative box dates back to Art Deco era, c1925. The edelweiss flower hallmark- stamped inside the lid rim, indicates Switzerland provenance - import mark (1917-1934) *Info H.CX. Also stamped is "935" - silver standard.
This stunningly striking vintage box features contrasting red and black enamel ..... colours indicative of the Art Deco era! enamel decorates the lid as well as the lower half of sides. The detailed organic engraving is beautifully decorated - the flourished engraving adorns the lid as well as sides, whilst bottom of box has an engine-turned pattern. Adding extra charm to this vintage box is a gold wash, otherwise known as gilding -more evident to interior.
This box, in the day, may have been used as a ladies compact type case or dresser box; nowadays this box could be used as storage for small treasured keepsakes, pill box or small jewellery ... as a few suggestions.
