A unique pendant featuring the pot-belly laughing Buddha motif! The two-dimensional Buddha is resting against a rectangular natural nephrite jade plaque, the jade measures 40mm x 19.80mm. The pale spinach-green jade has a nice translucency with some darker streaks and flecks seen upon close view. The buddha and bail attachments are gold plated. Pendant comes with gold plated 45cm necklace.
The celestial Buddha named Hotei (Japanese) or Pu-Tai (Chinese) is best known as the jolly Laughing Buddha. In China, he is known as the loving or friendly one. He is based on an eccentric Chinese Ch'an (Zen) monk who lived over 1,000 years and has become a significant part of Buddhist and Shinto culture. According to a legend, if one rubs the belly of laughing buddha, it brings wealth, good luck, and prosperity.
