A wonderful carved opal, diamond and ruby brooch from the late 1970's! The beautiful vintage brooch is made of 18ct yellow and white gold and features delicately carved crystal opal stones, along with little diamonds and ruby accents. The three-dimensional and slightly stepped brooch depicts a lovely flower and leaf spray design which includes three long stems with four leaf profiles 'sprouting' from the top and a carved flower resting below. Two diamonds are placed along the outer stems and a ruby is placed at the centre of the carved flower opal - all resting in four claw wire settings with white gold diamond settings. The flower opal displays strong flecks of iridescent green, along with subtle purple and orange flecks. The leaf opals vary slightly in body colour- three display a slightly darker bluish/purple body hue, yet all amalgamate and dance in the daylight beautifully!
A vertical pin and revolver clasp is attached to the back. There is also a set of Edinburgh hallmarks dating the brooch to year 1978, additionally the letters "DJE" can be seen alongside the hallmarks as well as an inscription -possibly "N2560".
A feminine and charming artistic piece of jewellery. Stunning on the collar or scarf - the piece may also be converted into a pendant by adding a ring to the upper back loop!
