This beautifully detailed little Victorian elephant brooch dates back to around late 19th century. The body of elephant is encrusted with sparkling old-cut paste gems and surrounds an oval silvery-white cultured blister pearl which measures 10mm x 7mm. There is a small ruby-coloured paste cabochon highlight in the eye. The engraving detail and overall figural is splendidly crafted!
The brooch is not marked or stamped, however an acid test indicates 900 silver. Pin and 'C' shaped clasp on the reverse.
