A lovely pair of antique Scottish agate and jasper earrings, c1880! The highly collectible antique earrings are made of sterling silver and feature Scottish agate and jasper stone inlays, each inter-spaced and placed on the diagonal. The warm tones of the stones are quite attractive, a combination of burnt orange jasper, dark green bloodstone, and striated greyish white Montrose agate all amalgamate beautifully together. The stones started to form in Scotland's countryside when Scotland was subject to periods of volcanic activity, millions of years ago ... adding further antiquity charm to this wonderful pair of earrings! The silver is adorned with an etched pattern to the front, the back is plain. Ball decorated shepherds hooks attach to a small ring at the top, allowing the earring to elegantly sway on the lobe whilst wearing. No stamps are sighted to the earrings, a test indicates sterling silver.
An exceptional piece of Scottish history, and would make a bonny piece on the collar!
