A lovely antique gold medallion from the late Victorian era, c1900! Made of 9ct gold, the piece has a wonderful bloomed (matte) yellow gold finish over rose gold, displaying a charming two tone look, a typical gold enhancement of the era. The regal pierced medallion design features a crown atop with a polished unmonogrammed rose gold shield overlay at the centre. Bordering the shield is a fanciful wreath-esque and scroll design, all beautifully adorned with hand engraved flourishes and patterns … adding further contrast and character to this striking piece! A ring and good-sized jump ring attaches to the top.
To the reverse bears hallmarks "9ct" "R" and another mark difficult to decipher - though likely Australian origin. Possibly the mark of popular Sydney firm Robert Rollason, later Rollason & Co (1888 - 1925).
The size of the medallion measures 4.50cm length (inc jump ring) x 2.60cm width.
Today this chic antique medallion would make a perfect pendant, layered amongst other antique necklaces, or just as nice alone!
