A very beautiful cultured Akoya pearl necklace from the mid 20th century c1950! The good-sized pearl necklace comprises of a uniform strand of eighty-seven lustrous Akoya pearls of assorted mid cream colours, with many of the pearls displaying strong pinkish and greenish hues … giving a feminine opulence to this wonderful vintage pearl necklace! The soft cream tones of the pearls, together with the larger than typical Akoya strand size are a rare find on todays market. Most of the pearls in the necklace have smooth skin surface with some displaying minimal to a few spots, and some with very slight undulations / small nodes seen under magnification, though overall, a lovely quality of older cultivated cultured Akoya pearls.
The pearls are hand strung with knots onto white silk with an oval-shaped handmade Chinese carved 14ct yellow gold tongue clasp, and a figure-8 safety catch connects to the side of the clasp for extra security. The back of the clasp is closed and flat, stamped "14K585" denoting 14ct gold.
When draped on the neckline the pearls rest at an elegant opera length, measuring 30" inches (76cm) long... and depending on the neckline fit, it may wrap twice to wear as a double strand choker!
A timeless pearl necklace that would be suitable for bridal wear, or perfect for the pearl lover!
