An elegant early Australian antique cross pendant from the Edwardian era, c1910's! The cross is made of 9ct gold, it retains a fire gilding over rose gold giving a lovely buttery matte yellow appearance to the front and a warm rosy hue to the back. It was a typical gold finish of the period, giving a 'rich' gold tone. The beautiful cross features an asymmetric three dimensional bow appliqué. The bow gracefully folds with the ribbon ends forming a scroll-esque design. Lovely hand engraved detail gives further character to the bow. Three slender wire appliqués meander down the cross, and each wire end is accented with a bright red garnet top doublet stone, all are step in height. The dazzling stones do bear some age-related girdle nicks, albeit only seen upon close-up view, but worth a mention. A little ring and sturdy 9ct gold jump ring to the top makes up the rest of the cross.
The reverse of the piece has early Australian marks - a 'sheaf' symbol, representing Australian guarantee of quality mark, "9", and "flag" symbol which was the mark for the early to mid 20th century notable Australian jewellery firm, Aronson & Co. There is also another stamp which is difficult to decipher, perhaps the production stamp!?
Not shy on the neckline, the cross measures 5cm total length inc jump ring x 3.00cm wide
An aesthetically pleasing one-of-a-kind antique piece, perfect for the lady with distinct taste!
