A timeless three stone sapphire ring from the early to mid 1900's! Hand made of 9ct rose gold, the classic trilogy design features a colour change synthetic sapphire at the centre, flanked by one white synthetic sapphire. The colour change synthetic sapphire displays a purplish mauve colour and shifts to a bluish green hue in different lighting... giving an interesting optical affect! The stones are fashioned in a round old-cut and are showing signs of general wear and tear, suggesting that the ring was made closer to the turn of the century. The stones are set securely, each resting in a classic claw setting which sits low on the finger. A smooth half round band makes up the rest of the ring. No stamps are evident to the ring, tests indicate 9ct gold.
The colour change synthetic sapphire stone is sometimes (often inaccurately) referred to as synthetic Alexandrite as it has a similar optical colour change display as the natural Alexandrite stone. Synthetic sapphires rose to popularity in the early 20th century and was first produced by Auguste Verneuil in year 1873. Naming the stone 'Verneuil' synthetic sapphire, after the inventor!
The ring measures Q & 1/2 (Aus/UK) or 8 & 1/2 (USA) and is resizable to a degree.
