A beautiful early Australian antique bangle from the Edwardian era, c1910! Crafted in 9ct gold with a gorgeous bloomed finish, the top design boasts a convex shield motif with textured wire scrolls meandering along the edges. A bright natural almandine garnet accents the center of the shield along with hand-engraved flourishes placed down each shoulder. The remaining of the hinged oval design is plain with a flat profile to the outside and rounded inside edges (allowing for comfort). An integrated tongue clasp secures the bangle together and there is a safety chain connected for extra security whilst wearing. The bangle bears early Australian hallmarks to the tongue; "unicorn" "9" "W" denoting Willis & Sons manufacturers and 9ct gold.
The bangle measures 6cm (60mm) x 5cm (50mm) inside, or 17cm around the inside. The bangle width measures 3.70mm. Suiting a small to medium sized wrist.
A wonderful antique bangle by one of Australia's largest iconic 20th century jewellery firms, Willis & Co, later Willis & Sons. A regal yet simple design which is just as revered and wearable today, as it was in the Edwardian era...

The antique bangle presents in very good antique condition. There is a stable repair to one side of the shield (where a darker line is seen to the back) and also a minor dent to the inside of bangle near hinge, albeit these small flaws are barely noticed whilst wearing. Overall and at a quick glance the bangle presents in immaculate antique condition with the bloom finish still present, crisp hand engraving, pristine scroll appliques, and clasp fastening with a nice click. A gorgeous Australian antique piece! |
