A rather unusual find - a 9 carat gold capped, early 20th century nephrite jade pendant that would originally been a fob ornament.... or perhaps a spiritual sentiment in the Maori culture many years ago! This antique piece originates from New Zealand, it is also given the name greenstone in New Zealand English. Giving a little more intrigue to this piece is the carved Maori warrior to one side.

The decorative 9ct gold cap features hand engraved foliage and NZ silver fern to carved side. The nephrite jade is a lovely spinach green shade, it's translucent with mottled strong green inclusions, it is a triangular or tooth-shaped profile. The nephrite jade measures 27.8mm length x 19mm wide (widest section).

The fitted and hand engraved gold cap is not stamped or hallmarked - however has been tested and indicates 9 carat gold - it was not uncommon for capped pieces such as this one not to be stamped. The colour of the 9 carat gold is a subtle shade of antique rose.

This piece would suit with today's fashion as a pendant around neck ... or to add to your antique 'pounami' collection!
