A stunning example of Antique celestial jewellery- this 15ct gold seed pearl crescent moon and star brooch pendant. The beautifully crafted brooch is encrusted with seed pearls - there are 17 seed pearls set along crescent graduating in size from 1.80mm- 3.05mm. The six-pointed star has 25 seed pearls graduating in size from 1.5mm- 2.10mm. The pearls are more than likely natural as this brooch dates back before cultured pearls were invented, however the pearls have not been x-rayed.

Many hours would've been spent hand-crafting the brooch; the sides feature an ornate hand-pierced lattice detail. Crescent/moon edge has a point at each seed pearl interval. There is a peak to star where central seed pearls are set - creating an almost 3D look. The star point at top folds behind to form a hook, this is so chain can slide through for wear as pendant. Adding further attention to detail is the fittings on the reverse- the hinged pin connects into an enclosed cone-shaped' 'C' clasp; (the design for practicality) so the pin will not stab whilst wearing as pendant. Safety chain and pin connected for extra security.

The brooch is hand-crafted in 15ct yellow gold. The hallmarks indicate this piece to be Australian origin with the 'hanging sheep' (15ct caratage stamp), "15" is also stamped. This stamp was used in Australia between 1889-1920. The partially seen 'unicorn' maker's mark is that for Willis and Sons of Melbourne.
