A wonderful antique Scottish brooch from the Victorian era, c1880! Hand wrought in sterling silver, the open circular style brooch features a central Cairngorm Quartz surrounded with various brighlty coloured Scottish agates and paste stones.

Sitting proudly in an upswept scalloped prong setting is a faceted round-cut brownish orange Cairngorm Quartz stone. Native to Scotland's Cairngorm mountains, the good-sized stone measures approx. 15.30mm, and the estimated weight of the Cairngorm is 10.00 carats. The scalloped border is decorated with dark green bloodstone, greyish white Montrose Agate and vibrant reddish Burne Anne jasper - the various segments also native to Scotland. The six foil-back paste stones have coloured foils radiating various shimmering tones of purplish pink, cognac orange and citrus yellow. The design is beautifully finished with a lovely hand engraved argyle plaid patterning.

A sturdy pin and c-catch attaches to the back, there is also a ring where a safety chain/pin likely once attached from - the ring could be utilized for a pendant, if you desire. In character to many 19th century sterling Scottish pieces, no hallmarks or stamps are sighted to the piece - tests indicate sterling silver.

Size of the piece measures 5.30cm (just over 2" inches) across.
