A lovely vintage Scottish kilt pin brooch from the mid 20th century, c1960! Made by Scottish silversmith, Robert Allison, this Scottish-themed brooch is embellished with agate inlays, textured silver and a faceted amethyst paste at the top. Grey and burnt orange agate segments are inlaid to the front and there is a Thistle motif to the top of the design... adding further Scottish finesse! Rendered in sterling silver, the brooch depicts one of Scotland's most symbolic medieval uses, the Dirk.
A crisp set of Glasgow hallmarks date the piece to year 1960, it is also stamped 'SCOTLAND' and 'RA' denoting maker Robert Allison. Robert Allison was a Scottish silversmith based in Glasgow, first registering his business around 1941. He had a store in Edinburgh and Glasgow, producing a lot of Celtic style jewellery and Victorian Revival pieces which was also exported across the world. His business ceased trading in the early 1980's.
The piece measures just over 6.20cm (2 & 1/2") long and width from widest point measures 1cm.

The vintage brooch presents in excellent condition. Besides general surface wear and patina, the agate segments appear intact and secure. Clasp works well. A wonderful vintage brooch! |
